Frequently Asked Questions About our Union

How can I get involved?

Become a union member, pay dues, and attend membership meetings to make your voice heard. Members can also get involved by sitting on action committees, lending their skills, engaging in outreach, and training to serve as stewards.

Why should I become a union member?

Our union is a worker-run organization. All action is initiated by workers who negotiate with the university, steward grievances cases, and inform fellow workers of their rights and protections. The benefits of our union are dependent on the effort that we as workers put into it. Participation from you creates a better union for all of us.

What are the benefits of membership?

Our union enables PAA staff to negotiate with IU as a group to improve wages, benefits, safety, and working conditions rather than fighting for each of those benefits as individuals. Union stewards represent and protect PAA staff during the grievance process in cases of workplace issues, misconduct, or disputes.

How much are membership dues?

Union membership dues are two hours of pay per month. For example, if you make $15/hour, then your dues are $30/month. After submitting your authorization form, dues will automatically be deducted monthly from your paycheck.
